Topstep Expands Trader Strategy With The Futures Desk Acquisition

Topstep has strengthened its position in the futures prop trading market by acquiring The Futures Desk, bringing the two companies together around a shared focus on trader development, technology and the transition from simulated trading to live markets. The acquisition confirmed that The Futures Desk’s technology and team would become part of its broader ecosystem.

A central element of the deal is the integration of The Futures Desk’s technology into TopstepX. Topstep said the integration is intended to provide traders with additional developmental tools designed to improve decision-making and trading habits rather than focusing solely on evaluation and funding.

The acquisition also brings The Futures Desk co-founders Josh Schwartzberg and Brian Ford into Topstep. Schwartzberg has subsequently taken responsibility for Topstep Labs, the company’s initiative for testing new funding concepts and trader-focused products.

That development is already producing new products. Topstep Labs has introduced several experimental account structures during 2026, including a $25,000 Static Drawdown Trading Combine, a $250,000 Freedom Funded Trading Combine, a $3,000 Challenge and a $1,500 Challenge. The September launch is the fourth Labs initiative.

For traders, the acquisition is significant because it goes beyond simply adding another brand to Topstep’s portfolio. The Futures Desk had built its proposition around trader development, technology and a pathway toward live brokerage accounts. Topstep can now incorporate those ideas into a much larger futures trading ecosystem.

The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, and Topstep has not provided a detailed timeline for every technology integration. However, the creation of Topstep Labs suggests the deal is already influencing product development.

For the wider futures prop industry, the acquisition highlights an increasing emphasis on technology and trader development alongside traditional evaluation models. Rather than competing solely through account sizes and pricing, firms are increasingly looking for ways to differentiate through platforms, education, risk management and the trader experience.
